Steve Motichka
Owner
Businessman of the Year 2003
Steve Motichka is the backbone of Rent-E-Quip. His mechanical aptitude and easy-going personality make him an ideal "rental guy." (To read more about Steve's past before Rent-E-Quip and how he got started, please visit the "Rent-E-Quip Story" link.) Steve starts every morning off with two peanut sticks and hot tea (preferably with Motichka Honey, made by his family.)
Unrelated to work, Steve's biggest passion is Classic Cars. He still owns his very first car, a restored 1965 Chevy Nova, in addition to umpteen 1968-70 Chevelles. Steve also enjoys any type of metal fabrication (its no coincidence that Rent-E-Quip added a steel & metal supply to its facility) and thoroughly enjoys working with stone—he will proudly show you his pride and joy: pictures of an elaborate 60' long, three tiered patio which he recently finished at his home.
In the little spare time he has (he loves the winter because it's the only spare time he has all year), Steve is an avid snowmobiler, specifically riding and racing Snow Hawks (again, its no coincidence that Rent-E-Quip became a dealer for Snow Hawk snowmobiles.) These snowmobiles are one-skied, comparable to a dirt bike on snow, and are anything but your leisurely ride through the woods. Steve looks forward to Canada travel every winter for his real Snow Hawk excitement.
A little-known fact about Steve is his ability to cook and sew. Being the son of Elsie Motichka, the town seamstress and neighborhood cook, he claims he had no choice but "to learn, and learn well." He also loves children, occasionally attending birthday parties with heavy equipment to give rides.
Steve has taken the complete Dale Carnegie course twice, graduating once earlier in his career, and again in 2007. Steve enjoys "out of the box" thinking, and credits the Dale Carnegie course as being the single most valuable experience in his business education.
Favorite equipment: Any of the mini-excavators
Favorite food: Steak on the grill
Favorite beverage: Wild Cherry Pepsi
Favorite Hot Rod: '70 LS6 Chevelle |

Joelee Motichka
Chief/Cook/Bottle Washer
After many years working part time with the company, Joelee graduated from college and came on board with Rent-E-Quip full time in May, 2005. She spends many of her hours on the tent and event rentals division of the business, however she still enjoys riding along on machinery deliveries and assisting the tool and equipment customers in learning how to use their rental to accomplish their task. As Joelee is Steve’s daughter, she also finds herself spending many hours on the administrative side of things, constantly coming up with new ideas to steer the company into the future.
Joelee received her BA from Marist College in Industrial-Organizational Psychology (e.g. business psychology) with a concentration in forecasting statistics. Joelee doesn’t spend much time outside of work, but when she’s not sitting at her desk, she is extremely active in the community, and sits on boards such as WEDCO’s Workforce Wayne (Wayne Economic Development Corporation), and The Greater Honesdale Partnership.
Joelee’s favorite part of working at Rent-E-Quip is receiving compliments from customers. Joelee says, "when our customers recognize and acknowledge the hard work we put into helping them complete their task, I am so grateful. The compliments we receive are what motivates me to jump out of bed every morning and get here, always striving to be better, be bigger, be the most accommodating, the most courteous, to give our customers exactly what they want. I don’t see Rent-E-Quip as work, I honestly love it, every day of it." Her favorite memories at work are every busy day. "Even though we’re so busy, we’re so fluid, we work so well together and don’t miss a beat. The customers who want some explanation get our dedicated time and the customers who are eager to get to their jobsite are in and out in 45 seconds." Joelee’s favorite tools are the ceramic tile saws. When asked why, she has no answer, but replies "I feel like they are my children! I have to make sure they are treated well, and I personally clean them every time they come back in. I better get over my fussing before I have real children!"
Joelee’s favorite beverage is Coca Cola (cherry, or with lemon.) Her favorite color is always changing (did you know this year’s popular bridal colors are eggplant and bright orange?!) She also loves being around water (perfect that her office overlooks the river!) Her favorite season is summer and she dreams of having an orange Pontiac Trans Am WS-6 convertible, but wonders how she’ll fit tent poles in there! |
